چکیده

Dynamic Treatment Assignment – The Consequences for Evaluations Using Observational Data This paper discusses the evaluation problem using observational data when the timing of treatment is an outcome of a stochastic process. We show that the duration framework in discrete time provides a fertile ground for effect evaluations. We suggest easy-to-use nonparametric survival function matching estimators. These estimators can be used to estimate the time profile of the treatment. We apply one of the estimators to evaluate the effects of an employment subsidies program. The longer run program effects are positive. The estimated time profile suggests locking-in effects while participating in the program and a big upward jump in the employment hazard upon program completion. JEL Classification: C14, C41

Evaluation of psychiatric interventions in an observational study: issues in design and analysis

Characteristics of randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) and observational studies of psychiatric intervention effectiveness are contrasted. Randomization drives treatment assignment in an RCT, whereas clinician and patient selection determine treatment in an observational study. Strengths and weaknesses of randomized and observational designs are considered. The propensity adjustment, a...

Identification of High Crash Road Segment using Genetic Algorithm and Dynamic Segmentation

This paper presents an evolutionary algorithm for recognizing high and low crash road segments using Genetic Algorithm as a dynamic segmentation method. Social and economic costs as well as physical and mental injuries make the governments perceiving to road safety indexes in order to diminish the consequences of road accidents. Due to the limitation of budget for safety...

Literature Review of Traffic Assignment: Static and Dynamic

Rapid urban growth is resulting into increase in travel demand and private vehicle ownership in urban areas. In the present scenario the existing infrastructure has failed to match the demand that leads to traffic congestion, vehicular pollution and accidents. With traffic congestion augmentation on the road, delay of commuters has increased and reliability of road network has decreased. Four s...

Estimation of Treatment Effects in Observational Studies by Recovering the Assignment Probabilities and the Population Model

In observational studies the assignment of units to treatments is with unknown probabilities. Consequently, estimation and comparison of treatment effects based on the empirical distributions of the response under the various treatments can be biased since units exposed to one treatment could differ in important but unknown characteristics from units exposed to other treatments. In this article...

Adaptive Subcarrier Assignment and Power Distribution in Multiuser OFDM Systems with Proportional Data Rate Requirement

A low complexity dynamic subcarrier and power allocation methodology for downlink communication in an OFDM-based multiuser environment is developed. The problem of maximizing overall capacity with constraints on total power consumption, bit error rate and data rate proportionality among users requiring different QOS specifications is formulated. Assuming perfect knowledge of the instantaneo...
